A classic Steinway!

Originally crafted in New York in 1910, this Steinway Model C 7'5'' Semi-Concert Grand Piano is a prime example of why Steinway continues to be the preeminent name in American piano craft.

The rarely-encountered Model C

It's a rare treat to encounter a Steinway C in optimal playing condition in the United States.  The Model C was designed as a scaled-down version of the 9' Model D, so pianists found it to be a very favorable alternative to the D with a lower price and size commitment. Production of the C ended in New York in the 1930s; it is believed that the model was discontinued in an attempt to bolster sales of the larger and more expensive D.  However, the C continued to be produced in Steinway's Hamburg facility, and it is still available as a new option in the European market (where it is known as the C-227).

Treasured, restored, and maintained by a private owner.

This instrument has been treasured by a single family since the mid-1950s. They were diligent and respectful owners, and performed a variety of restoration work on the instrument over the years to maintain its playability.

Based on our inspection, restoration work performed on this instrument within the last few decades includes:

  • New pinblock
  • New strings and tuning pins
  • New understring felts
  • Restored and repaired original Steinway soundboard
  • Steinway & Sons historic soundboard decal applied
  • New Renner action (wippens, hammers, shanks, and flanges)
  • French polished rosewood cabinet
  • Steinway & Sons historic fallboard decal applied

The result is a lovely and well-preserved instrument that will undoubtedly become a prized addition to its new home.

Condition notes

An area of the rear lid exhibits some cosmetic lightening due to sun exposure; these are extremely common in wood-finish pianos and should not likely diminish the overall visual presentation in most settings.
