A stunning historic Model D.

If you've had the opportunity to play a Steinway D, you likely know that it's an experience that simply cannot be replicated by another instrument. We're delighted to share a historic example of the world's most preeminent concert grand piano, on which we've just completed a thorough restoration.

The rare Centennial Grand.

Designed by C.F. Theodore Steinway in 1876 to commemorate the United States Centennial, the 8'9'' Centennial Grand was the first Steinway concert grand to receive the ''Model D'' moniker.  While immediately recognizable by its beautiful hand-crafted ornate cabinetry, the Centennial Grand also plays a historically significant role in the progression of Steinway & Sons and its establishment as the foremost American piano maker, featuring many new technological advancements of the day including the first capo d'astro features found in a Steinway grand.

By some accounts, fewer than 500 examples of the Centennial Grand were produced, with less than 100 still known to exist as playable specimens.

Musically speaking, the Centennial D is a delight to play.  Its tone is perhaps a bit more elegant and refined than subsequent D designs, begging comparison to prominent European instruments.
