How large is this piano?
All grand pianos have virtually identical Width and Height. Length is the only dimension that varies dramatically from one grand piano to the next.
Why is Length important? Longer pianos allow for longer strings and greater soundboard surface area, so they usually produce more sound than smaller pianos, but they naturally occupy more space.
What size should I buy? Most industry professionals recommend choosing the longest piano that your space can comfortably accommodate.
A classic restored Steinway.
This Model O is Steinway's classic Living Room Grand piano design. For much of the 20th century it was unavailable to buyers in the United States as it was produced in the Hamburg factory only. The O was restored to US production in 2005 and it is now the current design available at this size point for Steinways worldwide.
This Model O was originally crafted in New York in 1909 and was privately owned by a family in Connecticut. It received restoration work in 1987 which included the following work:
- New pinblock
- Restored and repaired original Steinway soundboard - excellent condition with good crown.
- New Steinway historic soundboard decal applied
- New strings and tuning pins
- Restored action with new hammers, shanks, and flanges
- French polished figured mahogany cabinet
- Replated nickel hardware
- New Steinway & Sons contamporary fallboard decal applied
- New keytops and keyfronts

We found this to be a lovely instrument to play, with a smooth and even action and clear tone with plenty of body for a piano of its size.

At 5' 10¾'' (180 cm), the Model O is the largest of Steinway’s “small grands.” This piano is large enough to satisfy those who demand a full, rich sound, yet sized to fit in almost any home.
Condition notes
An area of the rear lid and cabinet exhibits some cosmetic lightening due to sun exposure; these are extremely common in wood-finish pianos and should not likely diminish the overall visual presentation in most settings.
