Although we buy and sell a variety of piano brands, the most common piano brands we purchase and consign are Steinway & Sons, Yamaha, Kawai, Boston, Essex, Schimmel, Bechstein, Blüthner, Bösendorfer, Schulze Pollmann, Estonia, and Petrof.

We also purchase and consign some grand pianos from the following brands: Baldwin, Mason & Hamlin, Pramberger, Young Chang, Samick, Weber, Pearl River, Hallet Davis, Story & Clark, and Kohler & Campbell.

Sadly, no. Many pianos presented to us have met or exceeded their intended lifespan and do not retain much value in the open market.

Some common examples include:
  • Pianos produced by makers who are no longer in business
  • Traditional pneumatic player pianos (which use paper rolls)
  • Small upright pianos (spinet or console pianos 43'' tall or smaller)
  • Very small baby grand pianos (5' in length or shorter) which are 30 years old or greater
  • Digital pianos or keyboards 10 years old or greater or without an 88-note fully weighted keyboard

Most pianos falling into this category have a market value between $0 and $1000. Unfortunately we are unable to provide more specific valuations for pianos in this category.

Although many sellers choose to operate on a consignment basis with their pianos, we are sometimes able to purchase pianos outright from sellers. This is not our specialty. The value estimates that we can provide you assume that the piano will be listed for sale in the current market, and may not be suitable for purposes of insurance or tax deduction.

Are all pianos valuable?

Sadly, no.  Apart from a few exceptions, most older upright pianos we encounter have met or exceeded their intended lifespan and do not retain much value in the open market.  Older traditional (roll-style) player pianos are also difficult to sell in today's market because of their intensive maintenance requirements.
