This Estonia L210 6'10'' semi-concert grand piano was crafted in Tallinn, Estonia in the mid-2010s and comes to us from a private owner who treasured it and kept it in pristine condition. Estonia pianos offer a tremendous opportunity to own an example of extraordinarily high-level European craftsmanship at a fraction of the cost of comparable brands. It comes with a custom cover and a DamppChaser Piano Lifesaver System installed
Introduced in 2013, the Model L210 was the first Estonia grand designed from the ground up by company owner Dr. Indrek Laul in collaboration with many of Europe's preeminent piano experts. Highlights include a soundboard crafted from high-quality resonant spruce sourced from the Swiss and Italian Alps, a top quality German Renner action, and unique and attractive figured natural wood interior rim.
Pianists who appreciate the musicality of the more familiar European brands will likely find this to be an extremely familiar and enjoyable instrument to play. Its touch is highly responsive (thanks to the Renner action) and its tone is rich, refined, and complex with a notable "singing" quality that is the hallmark of the Estonia brand.
The eastern European nation of Estonia has a long piano-making tradition which as heavily influenced by German pianocraft. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, many Estonian craftsmen learned the trade by working for some of the most prestigious German makers (including Blüthner and Steinway's Hamburg factory), then returned to Estonia to begin building instruments on their own. During the mid-20th century, these small companies were consolidated by Estonia's Communist government into a single factory under the Estonia brand name. After the fall of Communism in the early 1990s, ownership of the Estonia Piano Company was returned to the factory's managers and craftsmen.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Estonia Piano Company came under the ownership of Dr. Indrek Laul, renowned Estonian pianist and Julliard graduate. Dr. Laul embarked on an ambitious process to improve and refine the design and craftsmanship of Estonia pianos with a goal to not only elevate the stature of the brand to equal that of the highest-level European makers, but to establish the Estonia brand as a cultural ambassador of the nation of Estonia as a whole. "The Estonia piano is an example of how a high value product can be successful and add value to Estonia, and at the same time represent the culture," Laul remarked to Estonian World magazine. Dr. Laul's efforts were recognized in 2015 when the President of Estonia awarded him the Presidential Medal for the role Estonia pianos have played in elevating the awareness of the country on the world stage.
Dr, Laul's reimagined Estonia pianos have gained an extremely enthusiastic following in the United States, with loyal owners forming club-style get-togethers independent of the company.
Estonia pianos are handcrafted to exceptionally high standards in extremely small quantities (200-300 per year) in Tallinn, Estonia.
